Shirlene Hernandez, from San Antonio, Texas, was attacked when she stopped to buy a Diet Coke at a Shell gas station.
The assailant repeatedly punched her in the face, leaving her bloodied and bruised as she stole her keys from him.
A car thief savagely beat Shirlene Hernandez to steal her car keys only to be killed in a car accident moments later as he fled.
Witness
Three witnesses tried to intervene and tackle the suspect, but he was able to get away with the car, police said.
Shortly after, police found the wrecked car on the interstate with the dead thief inside.
Hernández said: ‘There are a lot of people who would say that what goes around comes around, karma. I didn’t think that; the only thing that gave me (was) really sad because he had died.
‘Now granted, he had hurt me, but the Lord saw fit to put him out of his misery.’

Hernandez is still recovering from a bruise on her face and now she doesn’t have a vehicle that she needs to get to work every day.
She said, ‘I just don’t want to stop working, so somehow I have to get another car.’ And that takes money and stuff, so I have to figure out what to do.
Local residents and Hernandez’s granddaughter, Helen Garcia, created a GoFundMe page to help raise money to buy a replacement car.
The fundraiser initially had a goal of $5,000 but by Tuesday morning, donations had surpassed $23,000.
