Who is Kane Mitchel?
Kane Mitchell, 32, of St Neots, Cambridgeshire, was jailed for a minimum of 18 years for murdering baby Teddie, who died in hospital on November 11, 2019, after ten days on a life support machine.
A four-week trial in Cambridge Crown Court heard that Teddie had suffered injuries consisting of being “grabbed hard”, “shaken vigorously” and “struck on the head against a hard surface”.
Baby Teddie died with 17 broken ribs, skull and clavicle fractures, a hemorrhage in the brain, and damage to the spine and eyes.
Mitchell had been in a relationship with Teddie’s mother
Mitchell had been in a relationship with Teddie’s mother, Lucci Smith, 30, for about eight months and the couple lived together.
During an interview, detectives asked Smith how her son suffered such horrific injuries and she simply replied “I have no idea.”
She then goes on to say that she would tell the police if there had been any violence towards Teddie because, ‘he is my son at the end of the day and he means more to me than anyone else’.
And it has been revealed that social services and Cambridgeshire Police had been alerted to the concerns of concerned neighbors weeks before Teddie’s death.
Victim
Footage from before Mitchell’s arrest shows him holding his victim in the hospital while sobbing and saying, ‘Come on baby, daddy’s here.
At 3 p.m. on November 1, 2019, he was called to the ambulance service at Pattison Court, St Neots, where Teddie was found to be unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.
Smith had left Teddie in Mitchell’s care that day while she did morning school.

However, officers were able to prove that Mitchell had killed Teddie due to the types of injuries they caused.
Death
Teddie died as a result of his fractured skull and lack of oxygen to his brain.
Her death recalls the injuries that caused the death of 16-month-old Star Hobson, who was killed by Savannah Brockhill, 28, the girlfriend of her mother Frankie Smith.
Judge Lambert said the “fatal punch or kick” to Star caused the girl to lose half of the blood from her body and damage her internal organs.
Brockhill was jailed for 25 years for murdering Star and Smith was jailed for eight of her for doing nothing to stop her.
Investigation
Ms Thompson, who led the investigation into Teddie’s death, added: “ This was a terrible and tragic case where an 11-week-old baby was killed by someone who should have been there to protect him.
Our year-long investigation found that Teddie had suffered multiple horrific injuries during his short life, which neither Mitchell nor Smith could explain.
Viewers will see the complexities and complexities of such an emotional and tragic case.
‘The program highlights that we will work tirelessly to bring those responsible for such heinous crimes to justice, no matter what it takes.

During the trial, statements from neighbors were read to the jury saying they had heard arguments from management on a regular basis and that the house had been restless since Mitchell moved in.
During the interview with police, Mitchell said that he believed he was Teddie’s biological father.
However, DNA results after death revealed that he was not.

Mitchell was sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court in February.
Smith was found guilty of negligence after she failed to dial 999 for more than half an hour after her GP urged her to do so.
