Janette JJ Pantoja Wiki
Janette JJ Pantoja Biography
Who is Janette JJ Pantoja ?
A California man and woman who went missing on the same day and in the same area of Lake Tahoe as Kiely Rodni were found dead on an embankment Wednesday.
Janette ‘JJ’ Pantoja, 29, and her ex-boyfriend Juan Almanza Zavala, 36, were discovered near their car that was lodged on a Nevada County embankment, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.
Pantoja’s family alerted police shortly after her disappearance on August 6 that her phone last pinged in the area where the car and bodies were found 11 days later.
In the midst of searching for her sister, Alejandra Pentoja expressed her disappointment with the police for the large-scale investigation she is looking for Rodni compared to the lack of communication she received from detectives.
Rodni, 16, went missing from the Prosser Family Campground, which is about 70 miles from where the former couple’s bodies were found. Her disappearance on the same day launched a massive search that now takes some 18,000 staff hours to search for clues.
‘How come they’re making a big deal out of her but not making a big deal out of our familiar?’ Alexandra said. ‘Not well.’
“I thought the police were pretty rude,” Pantoja’s sister told Fox 11. “I called them (while she was missing) because I wanted to know about my sister, and they said we couldn’t keep in touch with you every day.
“They’ve been telling us they were going to send out an air search and (they) didn’t. I feel like if something happened, or if (Zavala) did something to him, they’re just giving (potential suspects) time to run.”
Pantoja and Zavala were returning home from a car show in Reno, Nevada, according to a KCRA report. The car they were found outside in was not visible from the road.
California Highway Patrol officials were alerted to the embankment of Highway 20 and Poker Flats Road in Penn Valley after reports that a man had seen a wrecked vehicle.
Vehicle find reports indicate that both Pantoja and Zavala were found outside of the vehicle. It has not been confirmed who was driving.
Alejandra said Janette’s current boyfriend received a notification the night she disappeared indicating that she had stopped sharing her location, which was last detected in Nevada County.
As of August 18, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office reported that it has spent a cumulative 17,946 staff hours searching for Rodni. Police say they recently sent investigators to search by water and by land on August 17.
Placer County police announced Monday that the effort to search for Rodni would wind down next week after following more than 1,200 dead-end leads.
In an updated chart posted on the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page Thursday, authorities have now followed up on 1,550 leads and have yet to process 79.
Details of Rodni’s vehicle, a silver 2013 Honda CRV, were also released. Police said the car has a decal of a battering ram under the rear wiper blade. The license plate number is 8YUR127.
Placer County Sheriff’s Lt. Josh Barnhart clarified that while cumulative efforts will be scaled back, authorities will “step on the gas” as they “continue to move forward this week.”
Police added that they have confirmed that Rodni was wearing the pink and white ‘Odd Future’ sweatshirt posted on the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page the night he disappeared.
