Harvin, who was also convicted of carrying a dangerous weapon, now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison plus three years. Sentencing is scheduled for January 3, 2023.

“There really is no winner in this case,” Baltimore State Attorney Marilyn Mosby said after the guilty verdict. “Coming to terms with our youngest homicide defendant to date, raping and killing one of our seniors is devastating. It means the loss of two lives.

Missing

Dorothy was reported missing by her neighbors after they hadn’t seen her for several days, but when officers arrived at the retiree’s apartment, they noticed dried blood on the outside of her door.

Once inside the apartment, officers found Dorothy unconscious, beaten, naked, and face up on her living room floor. She was surrounded by bloody clothing and a broken bloody lamp.

The doctors arrived and took Dorothy to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries once she arrived.

Crime

At the crime scene, officers found multiple condom rappers, used condoms, and blood on the living room floor where Dorothy was found.

Police said fingerprints found on the condom rappers belonged to Harvin.

DNA testing determined a partial profile consistent with Harvin on the inside of a condom and in the middle of the lamp that also had the victim’s blood on it.

An autopsy and s*xual assault examination found that Dorothy had sustained trauma to her head and genitalia during the brutal attack. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her cause of death to be multiple injuries with complications.

Harvin, who was 14 at the time, now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison plus three years.

On Wednesday, Harvin looked down at his feet as the guilty verdict was read. He did not appear to have family in the courtroom, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Prosecutors never provided a motive for the murder, but police had previously said that Harvin had been helping Dorothy with housework before her death.

The defense had tried to challenge the DNA software that had been used to link Harvin to the murder weapon and the condoms.

Harvin’s family, who did not appear in court Wednesday, had said in 2018 that he was innocent.

“I know my son wouldn’t do anything like this,” his mother told the Baltimore Sun in 2018.

“I’ve said repeatedly that we need to do more to reach young people early, before they get entangled in the criminal justice system,” Mosby said Wednesday. “And today is an example of how serious that need is.”
