TRIBUTES COME THROUGH KASSAHUN
A close friend of Kassahun’s, Chicago cameraman Max Williams, told The Sun that the victim was a “genuine” real person and friend.
“I’m really upset about this and I’m having a hard time dealing with it,” he said.
“He was a good friend, a super genuine guy.”
Another friend, Austin DePiano, paid tribute to Kassahun in an Instagram post, saying the skater was known to bring people together “in such a positive way.”
“You made sure no one was alone in a corner and now we’re going to do the same,” he wrote.
Kennedy appeared in court on Wednesday and his bond was set at $ 100,000.
Victim
The victim, another skater named Josiah Kassahun, 23, died of his injuries Sunday morning, according to TMZ.
Kassahun was reportedly left with a skull fracture and concussion after last week’s attack.
Kennedy fled the scene before being located by police, according to the outlet.
While he was initially booked for assault, it is possible that he was charged with a manslaughter or murder charge.
A police spokesperson told TMZ that Kennedy had been out on bail for a prior crime at the time of his arrest. Therefore, he was also charged with breaching his bail.
It is unclear what led to the attack, but posts on social media show that Kennedy and Kassahun appear to have been friends at one point.
They were photographed together in photos and followed on Instagram.
