Shawn Willis, who was 17 at the time, allegedly shot his mother, Sandy Willis, with the pistol she kept on her nightstand at her Rocky Top home in April 2020.
Willis allegedly carried the gun to a different room so he could load it without his mother listening, according to recently released court documents obtained by Law & Crime.
He then stood on her bed and shot her point-blank while she slept, authorities said.
Willis allegedly confessed to killing his mother when he and his father were being interviewed by the police.
Details surrounding his case have recently been made public after he was transferred from a juvenile court to a criminal court.
Prosecutors charge Willis, who has since turned 18, as an adult.
