Who was Peter Coshan ?
Detectives are treating the disappearance of a former teacher at one of Scotland’s leading private schools as a murder.
Peter Coshan, who taught at Fettes College in Edinburgh, was last seen in the Seafield area of the city around 11:50 p.m. m. Thursday of last week.
Arrested and Charged
Two men, aged 27 and 63, have been arrested and charged in connection with the disappearance.
Police have said they believe Coshan, 75, is dead and are treating the case as a murder.
His body has not yet been recovered. The two men are due to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff’s Court today. Coshan taught at Fettes College, which counts former Prime Minister Tony Blair among its alumni, from 1972 to 2005.
While there, Coshan directed the Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme for 33 years, presiding over the first expedition involving a female student.
Alumni of the £9,275-per-term school were among those who paid tribute to the teacher. Jozefine Cox said: ‘He was one of my teachers and the kindest gentleman who had time for anyone who needed support, a laugh or just a good chat. Please help find him so his family can put him to rest.’

Mr Coshan’s disappearance was described as “out of character” and prompted a major police search.
Police Scotland’s main investigative team is appealing to the public for any information relating to Mr Coshan’s death. Detective Superintendent Andrew Patrick said: ‘Our thoughts are very much with Peter’s family at this difficult time. Extensive investigations are underway to locate Peter and I encourage anyone with information about Peter’s disappearance to contact the police as a matter of urgency.
“Any information could prove vital, so pass it on to the officers.”
