Attack
The alleged October attack took place at Stuyvesant Square near Perlman Place and East 16th Street
When the girl tried to defend herself against her, Direnzo allegedly grabbed the 11-year-old girl by her hair, hit her in the face, and wrapped her hands around her neck.
Direnzo is also accused of beating a 15-year-old boy who tried to intervene.
The 11-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and the 15-year-old was treated by emergency medical services at the scene.
Arrested and Charged
Nathaniel Direnzo was arrested for an alleged Oct. 20 attack on an 11-year-old girl in Stuyvesant Square.
Direnzo faces multiple charges, including strangulation and assault.
He was charged with second-degree strangulation, two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child, second-degree stalking and two counts of assault, police said.

Direnzo’s arraignment
Another classmate in the park, a 15-year-old boy, was assaulted while trying to help his classmate. The boy was treated at the scene by EMS for minor injuries.
Direnzo’s arraignment was pending Saturday afternoon.
