Who is Marcus Maye ?
New Orleans Saints player Marcus Maye has reportedly been arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm following a road rage incident.
Maye, who previously spent five years of his career with the New York Jets, signed a three-year, $28.5 million deal with the Saints earlier this year.
Arrested and Charged
Maye, a former New York Jets player, has been arrested.
The NFL player’s arrest allegedly stems from a road rage incident that occurred on August 29.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office told TMZ Sports that while driving a black SUV, Maye allegedly pointed a gun at a car owned by “several young women.”
He has since been released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center after posting $30,000 bond.
Maye’s attorney, Eric Hessler, issued a statement to the NFL Network, saying, “Marcus vehemently denies the allegation of a motor vehicle incident and looks forward to defending himself when all the facts come to light.”
The Saints had included Maye as their starting strong safety.
He was reportedly absent from practice on Thursday, according to nola.com.
Maye began his NFL career with the Jets in 2017.
During his time in New York, Maye started 60 games and had six interceptions.
He signed his new contract with the Saints in March.
Maye isn’t the only Saints player struggling off the field.
Alvin Kamara, a running back, is facing felony assault charges following an incident that occurred earlier this year during Pro Bowl weekend in Las Vegas.
He is accused of being involved in injuring someone outside a nightclub on February 5.
Kamara’s lawyers have postponed his hearing several times.
The hearing is scheduled to begin on September 29.
Kamara has yet to be penalized by the NFL for his involvement as they wait for the legal process to play out.
The Saints are scheduled to start their season on September 11 in Atlanta against the Falcons.
The team’s first home game is scheduled for September 18 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
