Who is Laura Thrum?
Laura Thrum, from Sydney’s North Beaches, noticed that the ‘ugly’ mole on her leg had started to change last year and began taking photos of the troubling mark to show her doctor in April.
‘She (the doctor) said’ well, it’s changing, let’s take it out as a precaution and do a biopsy, ” Ms Thrum told 7News.

After a biopsy, the 26-year-old was diagnosed with early stage three melanoma.
The 26-year-old had her mole removed a week later, but her heart sank when the results confirmed that she had invasive malignant melanoma.
She said the news left her feeling an ‘overwhelming wave of fear’ and that she ‘she didn’t know what the next step was’.
‘So you go down the road of wanting to know more. It’s isolating, you don’t want to think about the worst, but you don’t want to be completely surprised if it’s the worst, ” she said.
Causes of death
The owner of Meraki Mats had another biopsy on her leg and had two of her lymph nodes removed to rule out the possibility that the cancer had spread to the lymphatic system.
But she received more devastating news, as one of the lymph nodes has a small amount of cancer.
She then she was diagnosed with early stage three melanoma.
The owner of Meraki Mats had her mole removed a week later, but the results confirmed that she had invasive malignant melanoma.
The business owner has experienced “ups and downs” as she will now undergo further testing before moving on to the treatment phase of diagnosing her.
Thrum said that she now applies “sunscreen everywhere” and doesn’t think he can “sit in the sun without feeling guilty again.”
He is now urging others to be diligent and have their skin checked regularly by their doctor.
“Checking your skin is something to which we must give more importance. I’m an excellent example of people who think it will never be them, ‘he said.
