A bar owner has been jailed for nine years for the murder of a seven-year-old boy who was electrocuted while playing in a beer garden.
Harvey Tyrrell suffered fatal shock at the King Harold in Romford, East London, when he touched poorly installed exterior lights on the afternoon of September 11, 2018.
The pub’s owner, David Bearman, 73, was sentenced to nine years by Snaresbrook Crown Court Thursday after pleading guilty to grossly negligent manslaughter.
Judge Martyn Zeidman QC said: ‘This pub was a disgrace. And … in my opinion, a time bomb waiting to go off. ‘

Harvey’s parents, Lewis Tyrrell and Danielle Jones, of Harold Wood in Romford, who have had another child since Harvey’s death, sat in the public gallery as sentences were handed down.
Mrs. Jones smiled, then sobbed and Mr. Tyrrell hugged her, while Bearman and Naylor were taken to the cells.
She previously cried on the witness stand as she read two statements about the victim’s impact on the loss of hers ‘perfect seven-year-old’ who ‘would have been 10 in a few days’.

Harvey had been taken to the pub by his mother to meet his father and his maternal grandfather and was playing in the garden with a friend when he was electrocuted.
Tyrrell said in a statement that he was “incredibly proud” to have been the father of Harvey, whom he called “Harvey chops.”

“ Losing a child is one of the hardest things in the world, but because it was so sudden we didn’t have time to say the last words, say goodbye, or tell him we love him.
“ I feel like a part of me died when Harvey died, and I’ve never been able to be happy since. ”
Naylor denied wrongdoing and told police in the interview that he was an electrician with 50 years of experience and that he believed his job was “first class.”
Bearman’s attorney, Neil Fitzgibbon, said his client’s plea was an acceptance of “full responsibility” for Harvey’s death.
He said the father-of-three and grandfather was a ‘generous family man’ behind the ‘colorful character appearance’, who was close friends with Harvey’s parents and regarded the boy as a relative.
“He is a broken man, consumed with guilt for what he went through and, on several occasions since this tragedy, he has tried to kill himself,” he said.
‘No sentence can undo the evil he has caused or lessen the guilt he feels and, through me, he apologizes from the bottom of his heart for the pain he has caused the entire Harvey family. He hopes that one day the family can forgive him. ‘
Bearman, of Ardleigh Green Road, Hornchurch, Essex, also admitted to an electricity extraction charge, after an unmetered illegal supply was used to steal power for the pub, but did not receive an additional sentence.
