Nine people have been taken to hospital due to the multiple injuries sustained.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela says that while details remain sketchy, preliminary investigations suggest an ambush.
“Primary investigations suggest that these people were just enjoying themselves in the tavern, some were playing pool when they began to hear gunshots and people being dropped dead.
“After a while, two of the injured try to escape, but they passed outside the tavern. Others were dead inside the tavern and two of those who were rushed to hospital in private cars sadly also died en route.”
“The tavern owner is the witness, and detectives are busy questioning him, but I can’t reveal anything at this time. This is a very large crime scene, it will take us more hours to discover more.
