Who was Zion?
The 48-year-old who calls himself Zion fell ill with an agonizing headache on May 13 last year, eight days after receiving his first injection at Penrith Auction Mart in Cumbria.
Tragically, he later died at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on May 19.
The inquest at Newcastle Coroner’s Court yesterday heard how his condition severely deteriorated in the days after his headache symptoms appeared.
A paramedic who was first called to Zion’s home in Alston, Cumbria, on May 15, 2021, gave evidence at the inquest, saying Zion was “alert and sitting up” when she arrived.
She said at the hearing that she advised Zion to go to the hospital for more checkups, but he said he didn’t want to go for fear of catching covid.
The paramedic added that she did not receive official guidance on the AstraZeneca vaccine and its rare potential risks until around July.
Investigation
The investigation also heard from Vikki Spit, Zion’s fiancée and partner of 21 years, who said the paramedic was “adamant” that the migraine had nothing to do with the vaccine and that they both “believed” him.
She added: “I was prepared to go to the hospital if the advice was to do so.”
The paramedic denied Ms. Spit’s claim.
A clinical review of the handling of the initial paramedic call by Northeast Ambulance Service was subsequently conducted and it was concluded that the paramedic made a “thorough assessment” and that there were “no concerns”.
Two days later, on May 17, another paramedic arrived at Zion’s home and described him as “confused and unoccupied.” Zion then had a small seizure and was rushed to Carlisle Hospital in an ambulance.
He was subsequently referred to the RVI and authorized to the hospital with the intention of operating immediately.
who operated on Zion?
Damian Holliman, the neurosurgeon who operated on Zion, said that when he arrived, both of his pupils were unresponsive to light. At this point, Zion had bleeding in his brain, causing him to swell up, and he was later operated on.
Holliman said he was “fully aware” that Zion’s blood clot “was the result of his recent vaccination” of him.
The inquest heard that Zion had a “limited medical history” and had suffered a “rare and aggressive complication”.
When asked if he believed the AstraZeneca vaccine was a direct result of Zion’s complications, Mr. Holliman replied, “I have no other reason to think it was anything else” and that his thrombosis was “related in some way way with vaccination’.
Two other RVI consultants also testified at the hearing and agreed with Mr. Holliman’s opinion that Zion had suffered a rare complication from the vaccine.
