Who was Yasmin Begum?
Yasmin Begum, 40, was found dead at a property on Globe Road, northeast London, at around 4:06 p.m. m. Thursday after school staff became concerned that he didn’t show up to pick up her children.
Quyum Miah, also 40, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates Court today charged with murder, robbery and two counts of fraud by false representation.
Wearing a gray tracksuit, Miah, from High Street, Homerton, spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and her address.
She was taken into custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.
Presiding over the hearing, Magistrate George Malouf said: ‘You are appearing here in four matters, one of which is the murder of Yasmin Begum. The matter will go to the Old Bailey.
‘He will attend the Old Bailey on the morning of March 30 for the murder charge and hearing. In the meantime, he will be in custody.”
Ms. Begum was pronounced dead at the scene after police and paramedics found her suffering from stab wounds.
A special autopsy was conducted on Saturday and the cause of death was established as multiple blunt force injuries.
Her family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.
Investigation
The Met opened a murder investigation after the 40-year-old man was stabbed to death at his home.
Miah was subsequently arrested on Sunday.
Mrs. Begum had dropped her children off at Bangabandhu Primary School on Thursday morning and she was due to pick them up that afternoon.
Teachers became concerned when the woman did not pick up her children and called police who went to the woman’s home on Globe Road.
Police found Ms. Begum inside the property, but she was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining multiple stab wounds.
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts are with Yasmin’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
‘I want to assure you that we are working day and night to give you the answers you deserve.
“It is heartbreaking that another woman has been killed. All women and girls have the right to feel safe, at any time, day or night, in public or at home, and we will do everything we can to find those responsible for it.
‘Tackling violence against women is one of the Met’s top priorities. Police officers, including forensic specialists, remain at the scene.
Ysmin Begum, 40, a mother of two, was found dead at her home in Bethnal Green east London on Thursday afternoon after she failed to collect her two children from school.
“They are worried about her friend because of what is happening to the child, she must be crying, very very upset, that they have lost her mother.”
One woman, 42, said: ‘My kids are older so I don’t really talk to her, but I know she lived through it for a long time.
‘I heard the school was concerned after she didn’t pick up her children.
‘As far as I know, she was a very charming woman. No one deserves something like this to happen.
A neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said: ‘Just think about those little children of yours. It’s so sad. It is something terrible. Your mom takes you to school and then you never see her again.’
Another local resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘He is so messy. I feel scared. It’s bad, since she is a woman, you are also afraid for your own safety. It’s so strange that it happens in her own house.
“It is very disturbing, the children are small, they do not have a mother. Who could be so cruel?
A woman whose children attended the same school as the victim’s children cried and said: ‘I am a mother. So sad, I’m so sad.
Scotland Yard has appealed for anyone with information about the crime to come forward by calling 101 quoting CAD reference number 4738/24Mar.
