The wife of an Asian man who fell into a brutal coma in East Harlem was forced to tell her children that he might not survive, and says she now fears for her own safety amid increased attacks on Asians.
“I told our children last night,” Baozhen Chen told The Post on Sunday after visiting her husband, Yao Pan Ma, 61, at Harlem Hospital.
“They are very worried about their father,” Chen said in Cantonese through an interpreter. “I am very worried that my husband will not make it.”
Chen apologized as she burst into tears and added, “I’m very upset.”
Ma remains hospitalized in critical condition in a medically induced coma.
Chen, 57, said her husband was a talented pastry chef in China, where her two children still live, and that he came to the United States two years ago in search of a better life.
