Who was Wim Jansen?

Former Celtic manager Wim Jansen has passed away, it has been announced.

Wim Jansen was a Dutch professional football player and manager. He won 65 international caps with the Dutch national team and played in the Dutch teams that reached the 1974 and 1978 FIFA World Cup finals. Wikipedia

The death of the hero Parkhead has been confirmed by the ex-club Feyenoord.

The 75-year-old was diagnosed with dementia in October last year, and Celtic sent their best wishes to his former boss.

Jansen guided Celtic to the title in his only season in charge in 1998.

But this lunchtime, the football community is mourning the loss of Jansen.

A statement from Feyenoord reads: “With the death of Wim Jansen, Feyenoord loses a special person and someone who was associated with the club all his life.

“Jansen served the club as a (youth) player, youth player, assistant and head coach, technical director and advisor to the Feyenoord Academy coaches.

“In October of last year it was announced in Jansen’s biography that he had dementia.”

A Feyenoord and Dutch football legend, Jansen made more than 500 appearances for the club and also appeared in two World Cup finals: 1974 and 1978.

As manager of Celtic, he brought Henrik Larsson to Paradise from Feyenoord, and in his season in charge of the Hoops, Wim also won the League Cup and the league title.
