Who is William Warrington?

William Warrington, from Cheltenham, is accused of murdering his father Clive, 67, and mother Valerie, 73, whose bodies were found at two separate addresses in the Cotswolds on Wednesday morning.

The defendant was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with the two murders on Friday night.

Warrington appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning via video link dressed in a gray prison tracksuit.

He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth, and to indicate when he was having trouble hearing.

The magistrates told him the charges were “too serious” for us to tackle and sent the case to Bristol Crown Court for a bail hearing on Tuesday 8 March.


The victims were divorced and were found at two separate addresses in Gloucestershire on Wednesday morning.

Warrington was found dead at a property in Sherborne Place, Cheltenham, following reports of a serious assault at around 6:25am, Gloucestershire Police said.

His ex-wife was found at an address in the town of Bourton-on-the-Water, some 15 miles from Cheltenham, a short time later.

On Saturday, Justice Andy Hill referred the case to Bristol Crown Court for a bail application on Tuesday 8 March.

Mr. Hill told the defendant: ‘These charges are too serious for us to deal with, and too serious for us to handle any bail request.

“At this time we are remanding him to appear at Bristol Crown Court on March 8.”


On Thursday, the family of Mr and Mrs Warrington thanked well-wishers for the “outpouring of love and support” they had received after his death.

William Warrington, 40, has been charged with the murder of Clive and Valerie  Warrington, Gloucestershire Police said on Friday.

Forensic officers at the scene in Bourton-on-the-Water where Mrs Warrington’s body was found on Wednesday morning.


They said in a statement: ‘We are devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of our parents.

‘We thank everyone for their messages of love and support, which are of great comfort to us.

“We would like to request privacy at this time so we can come to terms with what happened and grieve in peace with the rest of the family.”

Shocked friends and family paid tribute to the victims and left messages of love and flowers on the A429 in Bourton-on-the-water, Gloucestershire.

This included surgeon Charlie Chan, who worked with Mrs Warrington for 13 years at Cheltenham General Hospital, where he was her personal assistant.

Writing on Facebook, he said: ‘I am totally heartbroken by this news.

‘Val was my PA for 13 years and we shared many happy times. Clive worked in our house and I watched his children grow up. What has the world come?’

Mr. Chan also came to lay flowers outside Mrs. Warrington’s house today.

Speaking afterwards, he placed the floral tribute and added: ‘Val became my secretary in 2000 when I first came to Cheltenham and we worked together until 2013 when I left and Val went to work in the cardiology department.

‘In fact, I was still working in the cardiology department until the sad events of Tuesday morning.


Superintendent Roddy Gosden gave a brief press conference outside the flat in Cheltenham where Mr Warrington was found, and said: ‘At around 6.25am, emergency services received a call to Sherborne Place in Cheltenham, with a report of a serious assault.

‘Officers arrived to find a man in his 60s with stab wounds. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

‘Following concerns for the welfare of a second person, officers visited a property in Whiteshoots Hill in Bourton-on-the-Water. They discovered the body of a woman in her 70s who had also suffered stab wounds.


A Cheltenham man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with both deaths, which detectives are linking. The suspect was arrested near the scene in Cheltenham.

‘He knew the victims and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the ongoing investigation.

“Family members have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this devastating time. They are now receiving support from specially trained officers.

‘The cordons will remain in place in various areas for the next several days as officers continue their investigation.

“We are calling on anyone who may have information that could help us to come forward.

“This has been a challenging situation and we will provide support to officers and all those who have been affected by these incidents.

“People are understandably shocked to hear that two lives have been lost in such a tragic way.

“In the coming days, officers will be in local communities to provide reassurance and we would encourage anyone with concerns to speak with us.”

Mr. Warrington was found dead in a ground-floor flat of a half-terrace house that was supposed to be divided into four stories.

A man in his fifties who lives upstairs from the deceased said: “I am devastated, the man who died has been my best friend for the last ten years.”
