At this afternoon’s meeting, the police confirmed that a soldier was arrested last night on suspicion of kidnapping.
They said he had been arrested on suspicion of murder and on a separate charge of undue exposure.
PC Couzens is believed to have joined the police force late, after working in a family-owned garage repair business in Dover about 10 years ago.
“It’s really shocking that Sarah was arrested for her disappearance,” said a former PC Couzens colleague.
Detectives investigating Sarah’s disappearance are also searching her locker at the Palace of Westminster police base, where she works today.

The police are now in a house in Kent, a forensic tent has been set up outside and a car has been impounded from the house.
A woman believed to be the police partner was also arrested at the same location on suspicion of helping a criminal. She remains in custody.
However, Wayne’s stepmother, Corrine Couzens, added that she could not comment on The Sun: “I am aware of what happened.”
Speaking this morning, Deputy Commissioner Nick Ephgrave said we “really hope” Sarah is still alive while police are searching for clues, including an unused paintball center and a golf driving range.
