Who is Veondre Avery ?

A Florida father was arrested and charged for the shooting murder of his girlfriend by the couple’s two-year-old son in August.

The boy found Veondre Avery’s loaded gun inside a boy’s backpack while mother Shamaya Lynn was on a video call from work, police said.

Avery, 22, is charged with manslaughter and failing to safely store a firearm.

Court records show that he still does not have a lawyer and has not pleaded guilty.

Murder is a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Avery could also see 15 years of probation and a fine of $ 10,000 (£ 7,308).

The gun was kept unsecured inside a children’s backpack that was left on the floor of the couple’s bedroom, according to Altamonte Springs police.wikipedia

They said the boy took the gun, moved behind the mother and fired a single shot.

One of Lynn’s co-workers on the Zoom video call first called emergency services in the August 11 incident. She reported hearing a loud noise and seeing Lynn fall backwards.

“One of the girls fainted … she has the camera on. Her baby is crying in the back,” the co-worker said in a call broadcast by police to local media.

Girl Friend

When Mr. Avery returned home, he found his girlfriend bleeding on the floor. He called police and asked paramedics to “hurry up,” according to the Orlando Sentinel newspaper.

During the call, he said that he had just returned home and did not know what happened. He could be heard performing CPR while he waited for help to arrive.

Rescuers tried to help the 21-year-old, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her decisions have consequences,” Altamonte Springs Police Officer Roberto Ruiz said at a news conference Tuesday.

“As a gun owner, you have a responsibility to take care of those firearms.”

Neither of the couple’s two children, who were home during the incident, were injured. Both are now in the care of other family members.

Mr. Avery is due to return to court on November 23.
