Vejay Ramlakan Wik Bio
Lieutenant General Vejaynand Indurjith Ramlakan DMG MMS MMB KStJ was a South African military commander. A physician, he served in Umkhonto weSizwe (MK), the military wing of the African National Congress, during the liberation struggle against the South African government in the 1980s, and was transferred to the South African National Defense Force when MK joined it. in 1994.
Vejay Ramlakan About Early life
Popularly known as ‘Vejay’, he was born in Durban in 1957. He began his studies in Durban and enrolled at Naidoo Memorial High in Umkomaas in 1974. He obtained his basic medical degrees from the University of Natal in 1980.
Vejay Ramlakan Career
He first joined Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) as a clandestine operative in Natal in 1977. During this period, he received general military training in South Africa and Swaziland. At the University of Natal, General Ramlakan served as president of the Representative Council of Medical Students from 1979 to 1980. 
From 1981 to 1983, he was Vice President and Secretary General of the Natal Health Workers Association, and also a founding member of the United Democratic Front (UDF). As part of the MK command structures in the then Natal province, Lieutenant General Ramlakan was involved in Operation MK BUTTERFLY. He also held the position as a member of the first APMC in South Africa.
His continued active military and political involvement led him to be imprisoned on Robben Island between 1987 and 1991, where he was a member of the Central Committee for Political Education. General Ramlakan served as the Medical Commander in the National Conference of the ANC in 1991 and CODESA between 1991 and 1992 before becoming the Medical Commander of President Mandela’s Guard in 1992. Between 1993 and 1994, he served as Deputy Chief of the Service MK Health Department and led the MK military health team for integration into the NPKF and later into the South African National Defense Force (SANDF).
At SANDF he held the following positions:
Planning Director of the South African Military Health Service (SAMHS) between October 1994 and November 1995;
SAMHS Inspector General from December to February 2000; [two]
Training in military health in the COG area from February 2000 to November 2000;
Inspector General DOD  from November 2000 to December 2004; and
SANDF Director of Strategic Planning from January 2005  until he was promoted to Surgeon General, commanding the South African Military Health Service in 2005. 
On October 2, 2011, he was appointed SANDF’s Chief of Corporate Personnel  and took office on April 1, 2013 .
Following the publication of the Nkandla report, newspapers speculated that he should retire early in 2014 . However, he quietly retired in May 2015.
Vejay Ramlakan Death
Lieutenant General Ramlakan died of a suspected heart attack on August 27, 2020 at a Johannesburg hospital.
