TERRIFIED shoppers fled a Virginia shopping mall after gunshots were heard during an argument between a group of men.
Officers rushed to the popular Tysons Corner Mall in Fairfax County as the building was locked down and shoppers were locked inside stores.
People crossing the street as authorities investigate the shooting.
Police said that when the fight broke out, one of the men “displayed a firearm and fired a gun.”
Authorities said the possible suspect was a black male wearing a black hoodie, black jeans and white shoes.
Authorities later said there was no active shooter situation and no injuries were reported.
“We’re always lucky if there are no injuries, when gunshots ring out inside a mall here or anywhere else in America, and no one suffers a fatal or non-fatal gunshot wound,” Fairfax County Chief Kevin Davis said. .
“What’s not good, is that it happened.”
Investigation
Police said no one has been detained so far and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage inside the mall to identify possible suspects.
Multiple shots were fired inside, but no one was injured as far as police know.
They said there were no further reports of shots fired.
Three people were taken to hospital for injuries sustained while trying to leave the mall.
The mall was cleared to make sure the suspects are gone.
On Twitter, the local police department announced that the mall was closed and residents should avoid the area.
Police said the mall will remain closed for the rest of the day.
