Tyron Woodley Wiki Bio
Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley have been on a collision course for years. But while the two men once trained together for the American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida, and appear to be bitter rivals heading into their important main event battle Saturday night in Las Vegas, the two hardcore stars of the 170-pound UFC remember things about their shared past a little differently.
“We really hate each other,” Covington told Heavy. “All these other fights are just manufactured hatred, you know, guys don’t really hate each other. This fight? Woodley and I really hate each other.”

But what Woodley described sounded different.
“I don’t really think about him on a daily basis, to be honest,” Woodley said.
In fact, Woodley said he was already very upset with the whole thing and ready to put his feud with Covington behind him for good. If anything, Woodley said he’s done talking about it and is ready to fight.
“I’m agitated and upset that he wants to talk about it so much just days before the fight,” Woodley said. “This fight has been announced for five or six weeks. Now all of a sudden does everyone want to talk about it? ”
One thing became clear after speaking with both fighters: There is no love lost between these two former teammates.

Covington vs. Woodley a Legit ‘Grudge Match’?
There may not be a phrase that is used more liberally in combat sports than “grudge duel,” but Covington vs. Woodley could be one that qualifies for the term.
In fact, most of the MMA outlets and at least one of the main participants in the fight agree that the fight is exactly that.
“Oh yeah, this is definitely a grudge duel,” Covington said. “It’s definitely the hottest fight the UFC can offer right now.”

But Woodley is not buying that logic.
“I mean, who is the grudge against? I used to pay him to come in for these spankings on a daily basis, ”Woodley said. “He wants it to be a game of rancor because that is what he needs for his career. You need my name. ”
But Woodley said the opposite is not true. This is not the biggest or most important fight of his career and it could never be after all the things he has already accomplished.
“A Colby Covington win on my résumé as someone I fought and beat doesn’t solidify me,” Woodley said.
Covington Recalls How Beef With Woodley Began
But how did this all start anyway? Covington said his fight with Woodley started the first day they met.
“To be honest, it was always a business relationship,” Covington said. “I realized the first day I met him that he acted like he was better than me. He acted like he was better than everyone in the building. He thought he should have the red carpet rolled out for him and that he was a superstar. ”
Covington, a prominent amateur wrestler, had been brought to Woodley’s camp to help the wrestler prepare as part of a new program at American Top Team. But Covington said he didn’t feel respected by Woodley from the beginning of their employment relationship.
