“It is with deep regret and sadness that Superintendent Kevin P. Bruen announces the death in line of duty of police officer James J. Monda,” she reads in the agency’s press release.
Monda joined the State Police in 2002 and had worked for 18 years at the agency.

After working with Troop B at Ray Brook for about a year, Monda was assigned to Troop G, where he remained until his death. His last assignment was in Princetown, the agency said.
Monda is survived by his mother, father, and his fiancée.
The last New York State trooper to die in the line of duty for him was Officer Joseph Gallagher, who succumbed to his injuries on March 26 after being hit by a drunk driver three years earlier.
