Tracy Do The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) confirmed the causes of death for a Westport mother and her seven-year-old daughter.
The deaths of a Connecticut mother and daughter in the wealthy coastal city of Westport have been declared homicide-suicide. Authorities say a 46-year-old mother drowned her daughter, Layla Malon, 7, and later died of “shear force trauma” at a home in Lyndale Park.

Westport Police Chief Foti Koskinas stated that “this is a horrible tragedy, and the police department holds in our thoughts and prayers the family and community that were so deeply affected by this.”
“We spent a lot of time processing the scene in conjunction with state police felonies and we will continue to do so throughout the day,” Wolf said Friday afternoon.
A Westport woman, who walked down a busy Weston Road to place a bouquet of flowers and a card in front of the house where the tragedy occurred, she does not know the family, but still she felt the need to pay respect to her.
“I have worked in childcare here for about five years at the Y, so I have children that I know of the same age,” said Emily Greenberg. “It’s just, you know, it’s close to home.”
A man who lives directly across the street, who is a local lawyer, was stunned by the news.
“I know they were selling lemonade a week ago and my friend bought lemonade there,” said Mark Kratter. “They have extremely beautiful Christmas decorations. You think it’s a really happy family and something like that wouldn’t happen.”
According to court documents, Tracy Do and the children’s father, Eric Malon, had been involved in a legal battle. He wanted custody of the children and support for her children, while Malon tried to evict her and her daughters from her home.

The mother was identified as Tracy Malon by the coroner who performed the autopsies, but the Westport Police Department and various civil legal documents reviewed by Law & Crime identified her as Tracy Do.
The Hartford Courant more accurately reported that Do died of “cutting force injuries to the torso and extremities,” citing law enforcement sources and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
