Torah Bright Biography
Who is Torah Bright?
Olympic champion Torah Bright has urged mothers to ’embrace our quirks’ after a photo of her breastfeeding her 10-month-old son while doing a headstand sparked an online debate.
Bright, Australia’s most successful winter Olympian after winning a gold and silver medal in the snowboard halfpipe, posted the photo last week to mark Mother’s Day.
The image of her son Flow, breastfeeding, was part of a series of photos that he uploaded along with the caption “Becoming a mother has unleashed something inside of me.”
She said: ‘My prayer for all mothers, now and in the future is that they be heard.
“My prayer for all mothers, now and in the future, is that they be heard. Honored. Respected and encouraged to trust your intuition. ‘
The breastfeeding photo drew thousands of comments, including one that said ‘this is a balanced meal’.
Another said, ‘Breastfeed anywhere, anytime,’ while a third commenter wrote ‘What an amazing mommy bear. I love her’.

But Bright was also criticized for her approach to breastfeeding, with one of them commenting: ‘I’m not saying it’s not beautiful. Breastfeeding is between a mother and a child. This is too much. It’s not about getting on your hands and seeing how that kid can really hold on to get likes. ‘
Bright said she was disappointed with the critical comments, many of which came from other mothers, and she added “disclaimer: this is not a sustainable breastfeeding practice.”
“Reading some of the comments makes me sad,” Bright wrote in an Instagram story.

‘In my world, mothers should be each other’s cheerleaders (hard enough). Embrace our weirdness and find joy in every shitty thing motherhood is.
‘We all do it differently, it’s not wrong or right. Motherhood is pure. Only now do I consider myself a wonder woman because I have joined the holy mothers club with you. Nothing but respect for all mothers. ‘
Bright said she was ‘not looking for praise’, recounting how she walks ‘this land to the beat of my own drum, guided by my intuition and search for love and joy … obviously’.
She also posted a Mary Poppins quote that said ‘In every job that needs to be done, there is an element of fun. You find fun and click, work is play. ‘
“Growing up with this as one of my favorite mantras … no wonder I play with motherhood jobs, all in the name of fun,” she said Bright.
