Who was Thomas Nutt?

Chilling CCTV footage has revealed the shocking moment a husband dragged his new wife’s corpse out of their home in a suitcase, before carrying it across a field and dumping it behind a bush, just four days after they were married.

Thomas Nutt, 46, of powerful build, who was today jailed for life with a minimum sentence of 22 years, beat and then strangled 5-foot grandmother Dawn Walker before hiding her in a closet at the home of she.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Nutt, from Lightcliffe, near Halifax, broke his leg so he could pack her body into a suitcase, which he then dumped over a fence before hiding it in the bushes, where her remains were found.

Nutt lied to her family, blamed her disappearance on her mental health, sent them fake text messages purportedly from her, and convinced her youngest daughter to help try to find her, knowing she was missing. dead. She had controlled her 52-year-old victim for years and isolated her from family members, her sister told the court.

A video shows Nutt dragging the rolling suitcase out of the house she shared with Mrs Walker, whose body was inside her. He is later seen going back to the garden to try to cover the wheel tracks with the mud. Her body was later found near a children’s playground by neighbors searching for Mrs Walker after Nutt reported her missing.

CCTV footage

Other CCTV footage released today by West Yorkshire Police after Nutt’s sentencing shows Mrs Walker, still in her wedding dress, returning from the pub with her new husband where they had celebrated their nuptials.

This was the last time the mother of three was seen alive before Nutt beat and strangled her to death that night on October 27 last year. He told police they honeymooned in Skegness the next day, but Judge Jonathan Rose said there was no evidence to support that claim and he was sure Ms Walker was already dead.

In sentencing Nutt, the judge told him: “Dawn Walker died because you’re a bully, you’re used to getting your way with women, you’re used to controlling and manipulating women, and you’re used to using your considerable size advantage to inflict violence on women if you consider it. necessary to do it.

The killer “desecrated” her body by breaking bones to fit in the suitcase, the judge said. The victim’s daughter, Kiera-Lee Guest, said Nutt put up Halloween decorations in the house even as she lay dead.

Victim

Mrs Walker’s sister, Lisa, said Nutt manipulated his victim and isolated her from her family for three years “before his ungodly hands took her away from us forever”. Lisa Walker told the court: “I cry for my sister who suffered so much and she felt she had no one to turn to because this man made her feel worthless.”
Nutt had admitted manslaughter but was found guilty of murder. After the judge imposed a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years, a woman in the public gallery shouted: ‘Thank you, your honor, thank you.’

It was heard at trial that Nutt even cruelly texted Mrs. Walker’s daughter from her phone pretending to be her new wife after he killed her.

When he returned, Nutt dragged the dark wheeled bag across a field and then dumped it over a fence into the bushes.

Missing

Nutt contacted police on October 31 to declare Dawn missing and then carried out a “appalling charade” of acting as a “distressed new husband”, the court was told.

And the court heard that he even joked and laughed with the neighbors, whom he convinced to help him search for him, that he could be held responsible for the murder of his wife.

He even cruelly celebrated Halloween at the family home with Mrs. Walker’s daughter and grandson while his body lay in a closet in the house.

But Nutt was brought to justice after the same neighbors discovered Mrs Walker’s body in the brush, after they saw him making the trek, with the bag, to the back of his house.

Nutt turned himself in but claimed that he was killed during a fight after their honeymoon. He said the murder was manslaughter and denied murder, but the jury didn’t believe him.

Statement

In her victim impact statement read in court today, Ms Guest said: ‘This man took the most beautiful soul. He is the most selfish person I know. What he did to my mother is beyond cruel. He has broken this family, but we have the strength to get the justice he deserves.

“Not only did he beat her and abuse her, but he disrespected her in so many ways that ended up taking her life. I think about the last hours or minutes of her and I think about how scared she would have been at that moment.

“He took me and my son to look for her knowing that she was dead. I was very worried. He then took me back to the house and I made my son lunch in the very place where my mother had been so violently murdered.
