Tayler Barnham Biography
Who is Tayler Barnham?
Tayler Barnham, 29, drove to a level crossing near Faversham, Kent, then turned left onto the tracks at 11:55 p.m. m. on May 29 of last year.
The incident could have turned fatal if the driver of an approaching passenger train had not seen the Ford Fiesta in time and applied the emergency brakes.
Barnham, from Rochester in Kent, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for two years, at Medway Magistrates Court on Wednesday after admitting driving without due care and attention and driving under the influence of alcohol at a previous hearing. British Transport Police said.
CCTV footage
CCTV footage captures the moment Mrs Barnham strays onto the railway while drunk.
She was disabled from driving for two years and must be on curfew between 7 p.m. m. and 7 a.m. m. during three months.
In CCTV footage released after the ruling, the Ford Fiesta can be seen making a left turn on the tracks, causing a large electrical shock as it hits the live rail before coming to an abrupt stop.
The incident has prompted a stern warning from police that “the railway is not a playground”.
Arrest
After Barnham was nearly arrested, a breath sample taken in police custody found she was more than three times over the limit for driving under the influence of alcohol.
After the car was removed from the rail track, officers located an empty beer can in the footwell, police said.
Sparks fly in footage as Ms Barnham’s Ford Fiesta plays a live train
Detective Constable Mike Ganly said: “Barnham’s rash decision that night could have had tragic consequences.”
“Not only did he put himself in grave danger, but he caused a significant risk to the safety of passengers on the oncoming train.
“I hope that the images of her reckless actions and her prosecution serve as a clear warning to anyone who might consider driving or riding the tracks.
‘The railway is not a playground, it has many hidden dangers. Not only are you at risk of being hit by an oncoming train, but the electrified third rail carries 750 volts, enough to kill you.
