Tavis Dunbar, 34, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder after turning himself in Monday in the deaths of Jaylen Ausley, 23, Devonta Vivetter, 27, and Donald Huey, 25, outside of Jeffery Pub around 5am. of August 14.
A fourth man, Carlee McKinney, 21, was seriously injured after Dunbar crashed the car she borrowed into the men at 5 a.m.

Video circulating on social media shows Dunbar yelling the statement before speeding down the road in his cousin’s car at 60 mph before running over a group of people who were fighting. The video reportedly shows bodies tossed into the air, with at least one of them landing a block away.
“The defendant essentially stepped on the gas and drove directly into four human beings, killing three of them,” Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Danny Hanichak said.
“The accelerator is at least 99 percent depressed and the defendant never touched the brakes prior to impact.”
Crash
After the crash, the assailant allegedly parked his car just a few blocks away and was seen walking around the car while on the phone with a friend who lived nearby. It is said that he went to the house of that friend, who then took him to another friend’s house.
They kicked him out of the bar and smashed his cousin’s cars after people started “going for him,” according to Hanichak.
But authorities have said there is currently no evidence to suggest Dunbar was threatened.
The friend then saw a video of the attack online and realized it was Dunbar, according to CWB Chicago. When she confronted him about it, he asked her for an alibi. She refused, citing that he had killed two people.

The police announced that they do not know Dunbar’s motive and that he invoked the Fifth Amendment.
Dunbar’s attorney, Robert Kerr, said prosecutors will have “a difficult time proving the case.”
“My fear here is that the state is overreaching on first-degree murder charges,” Kerr said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. And that Mr. Dunbar is wrongfully being held with no opportunity to post bail.
He also insisted that his client, who is being held without bail, “is not a flight risk or a danger to society.”
“Instead of fleeing the jurisdiction as someone with a guilty conscience would, Mr. Dunbar arranged to surrender peacefully,” he argued.
Arrested and Charged
Despite that, Huey’s sister said she was relieved Dunbar was currently behind bars and not “just hanging around here thinking it’s great that he killed all these people.”
