Tamarius Blair Davis of Norcross, Georgia, told investigators that he shot Dustin Wakefield, 21, on Tuesday night because “ he was high on mushrooms, which made him feel empowered. ” according to his arrest report.wikipedia

A young father visiting Miami Beach from Colorado with his family was shot and killed while protecting his one-year-old son from a crazed gunman, who police say opened fire on diners at an open-air restaurant and later celebrated the murder dancing on top of the victim’s body.

Davis allegedly told police that he approached the patio of La Cerveceria restaurant just before 6.30 p.m. and decided to randomly shoot Wakefield, who was on vacation in Castle Rock, Colorado, with his young wife and his son.

Shooting

Wakefield was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Davis fled the restaurant, police said, and was caught in a nearby alley. Cell phone video obtained by the Herald shows Davis lying on his back and smiling as three officers approach with their guns pointed at him yelling orders, warning him that if he touches his gun, they will shoot him.

Suspect and Charged

Davis then rolled onto his side in a fetal position, before rolling onto his back again as officers approached. Davis yelled ‘I give, I give, I give’ as officers turn him face down and handcuff him. The video shows a black pistol about 10 feet away.

Tommy Davis, the suspect’s father, told The Associated Press that his son had traveled to Miami Beach with some friends. He said his son has never had problems or had mental health problems. No arrest record could be found for the young Davis.

“This is kind of unlikely,” Davis said a senior. ‘We are trying to find out what happened. You can imagine that he surprised us.

He said he did not know if his son would ingest mushrooms or other drugs.

“You think you know your son, but you don’t,” he said. Someone may have given you something. That’s something we have to find out. ‘

Davis is charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder, and on Wednesday he was being held without bail in the Miami-Dade County jail.
