Early life

Damon was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Marvin Leonard Zonis, who was a manufacturer.  Damon’s parents were Russian Jewish immigrants who made their home in America after fleeing the Bolshevik Revolution.


Damon died on June 29, 2021, as a result of kidney failure. He had been struggling with renal failure for several years. He was 84.

Damon’s Quartermaine remained a prominent figure in “General Hospital” for nearly 30 years. Despite the death of Damon’s character in 2007, Quartermaine maintained a ghostly presence on the show until December 2008. Damon would return later between 2011 and 2013 to sporadically reprise the role of Quartermaine.

After three decades on “General Hospital,” Damon went on to guest star on additional soap operas, such as “Days of Our Lives” and “As the World Turns.” Damon also appeared in the Bob Fosse film “Star 80” and landed guest roles on American television series such as “Fantasy Island”, “Hotel”, “The New Mike Hammer” and “Diagnosis Murder” in the 1980s and 1980s. 1990.
