Detained – Charge
A man accused of participating in last month’s riots at the US Capitol was arrested Wednesday at Orlando International Airport, federal officials said.
According to the judge, Maldonado admitted to being a person captured in a photo showing a man breaking into the Senate Chamber during the Capitol riots.
FBI agents arrested Maldonado at the airport Wednesday morning as he was heading to Puerto Rico with his girlfriend to enjoy the beach and see his family, his public defender said.
The judge said the case will likely be transferred to D.C. Meanwhile, the judge ordered Maldonado to be released on $ 25,000 bond, surrender his gun, passport, and not travel outside of the Middle District of Florida, except for court proceedings.The FBI said it located Maldonado after a couple of people recognized him while watching news about the riots. One of them contacted the FBI and another person told the FBI that they had received a video of Maldonado that he recorded at the Capitol mutiny.
The FBI said it crossed that information with Maldonado’s driver’s license, photos from social media, and surveillance footage from U.S. Capitol police.
On January 6, hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol as Congress met to certify Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential race.
Several other Central Florida residents have been charged in connection with the riots, including Joseph Biggs, a leader of the Proud Boys organization, and a Sanford firefighter.
