Who is Steven Bowkett ?
A serial stalker who demanded photos of topless women after finding their contact details in missing pet appeals has been jailed.
Steven Bowkett, 33, tracked down missing pet websites for the phone numbers of women and then sent them a message pretending that he had found his dog.
But after illusions to the owners, he bombarded them with indecent images and videos of himself, before demanding that they do the same.wikipedia
A court heard that Bowkett tormented at least 30 strangers across the country and even told one victim: ‘This only ends when I see you topless.’
The women blocked Bowkett’s number, but continued to receive messages and video calls as he switched to one of the many pay-as-you-go SIM cards he bought in bulk.
He also boasted that ‘the police can’t do anything’ before officers traced his phone to an address in the Sheldon area of Birmingham.
He was arrested after detectives discovered that he had purchased 28 SIM cards to contact various women from the West Midlands and other parts of the country.
Bowkett pleaded guilty to multiple stalking, attempted harassment and indecent exposure offenses.wikipedia
He was jailed for four years and eight months in Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.
West Midlands Police Adult Abuse Team said
Detective Sergeant Becky Leyland of the West Midlands Police Adult Abuse Team said: ‘Bowkett tormented his victims.
“ They felt like she couldn’t get away from him as she seemed to have endless different phone numbers to contact them.
“He must have been very scary and caused these women great distress.
In an interview, Bowkett claimed that he was drunk when he sent the images and videos and did not remember how many people he had contacted.
But these were not drunken mistakes. This was a systematic and calculated harassment of strangers for his own satisfaction.
“They have rightly imposed a long prison sentence on him and this case should serve as an example of how seriously we take crimes like this and that criminals run the risk of being sentenced to prison.”
