Charlie Watts Death

Following the death of drummer Charlie Watts, the Rolling Stones may have found a replacement: Steve Jordan.

Watts, 80, spent Tuesday in the UK, bringing back a wealth of memories from celebrities and fans alike.

Temporary drummer Jordan was only supposed to replace during the band’s “No Filter” 13-stop tour this fall, which begins Sept. 26 in St. Louis, and it would have been the first time since 1963 that Watts had not trailed behind. drums on tour.wikipedia

Jordan is a singer, songwriter, and producer who has worked with the likes of Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Stevie Nicks, and John Mayer, among other notable musical artists.

He started working with the Stones in 1986 when they were recording “Dirty Work.” At the time, he hung out in the studio and even played on the album, one of the first times he replaced Watts.

In 1986, he was also on leave from the house band on “Late Night with David Letterman,” but he was good enough to be remembered by the Stones for his “Saturday Night Live” performances in the house band. that program in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Jordan originally planned to only be a temporary understudy for Watts

He continued to collaborate with the Stones in 1987 when he again replaced Watts, who was unavailable for a documentary about a Chuck Berry concert titled “Hail! Hail! Rock And Roll.”

The rest was history: Keith Richards, who was so captivated by Jordan’s talent, continued to hire him for more projects.

On Richards’ solo albums “Main Offender” in 1992 and “Crosseyed Heart” in 2015, he invited Jordan to collaborate. In multiple previous interviews, Richards spoke about his relationship with Jordan and spoke highly of his musical ability.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in 1988, Richards touched on Jordan’s influence on him. “I managed to do some of the things that with the Stones I would say, ‘No, I can’t do that. Too complicated, ‘”he said of his successful collaborations.

Due to his already established relationship with the Stones, and specifically with Richards, it feels almost natural that Jordan would have merged with the band in Watts’ absence.

“It is an absolute honor and privilege to be Charlie’s understudy,” Grammy and Emmy winner Jordan said in a statement when it was announced that he would at least temporarily replace him.
