Who is Stephen Kyere ?
A Metropolitan Police officer on duty allegedly raped a woman 18 years ago after missing work, a court heard today.
Stephen Kyere, 58, is also charged with attempted rape and indecent assault following the incident in Teddington, Middlesex, in April 2004.
Kyere, who retired from the Met Police in March 2021, was off duty at the time.
Dressed in white trousers and a dark jacket, he spoke to confirm his date of birth, address and the pronunciation of his name when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Former PC Stephen Kyere has been accused of a rape in Teddington in 2004 18 years ago.
Former PC Kyerer also faced charges of attempted rape and indecent assault in court today.
According to the Met, he was attached to Hammersmith and Fulham Police at the time of the allegations.
Specialist officers are providing support to the whistleblower in this complaint, the Met said.
District Judge Paul Goldspring ordered Kyere on unconditional bail ahead of a plea and trial hearing at the Old Bailey on March 1.
Kyere, from Ashford, Middlesex, is charged with rape, attempted rape and indecent assault.
Statement
The Met Police said in a statement published last week: “A former Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with rape, attempted rape and indecent assault.
The charges relate to an incident in Teddington in April 2004 when the officer, then attached to Hammersmith and Fulham Police, was off duty.
Former PC Kyere was charged by mail order in January 2022 following an investigation by officers from the Southwest Command Unit.
“He retired from the Metropolitan Police on March 19, 2021. Misconduct matters will be considered after criminal proceedings.”
