Skye Leckie Biography
Who is Skye Leckie ?
Skye Leckie is the wife of David Leckie, she was an Australian media executive who was the CEO of Seven West Media from 2003 to 2012. She previously worked at Nine Network for almost a quarter of a century. Leckie held a position with the media company as a media director for Seven Group Holdings, which has investments in Seven West, earthmoving company WesTrac and the Agricultural Bank of China.
Leckie was born in Sydney on May 4, 1951. Her father, Ron, was the head of Unilever’s transportation division; her mother was Joyce. She was her first child and she had two brothers, Stuart and Ian. Leckie grew up in the North Shore and attended Newington College from 1962 to 1968. She then studied at Macquarie University, where she graduated with a BA in economic and financial studies. She subsequently worked for Saatchi & Saatchi in London and toured Europe.
Leckie first worked as a salesperson for Nine Network beginning in 1977. He later became its managing director in 1990. Under her leadership, the network spent nearly six weeks at the top of television ratings during the next decade. Nine’s dominance over their rivals began to wane in 2001 when a new ranking system was established. Consequently, Kerry Packer fired him in January 2001. Later that year, he was named a trustee of the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust.
Leckie joined Seven Network in 2003, at the invitation of Kerry Stokes. Although he struggled through his first few months in office, which culminated with a minimum audience share of 13 years in 2004, the network’s fortunes recovered after it struck a production deal with The Walt Disney Company. This allowed Seven to air popular American shows in 2005, such as Desperate Housewives and Lost. A key part of Leckie’s success was differentiating the network from Nine, attracting rather than a more casual suburban audience. He resigned as CEO of Seven West Media in 2012, but continued to advise the company for four years. He came out of his retirement in March 2020 to serve as an executive mentor, including his protégé James Warburton.wikipedia
