Who is Shanna Dupree?
A Georgia State Patrol cadet who dreamed of becoming a state trooper died last week while training for the job, according to a report.
Cadet Patrick Dupree collapsed after conducting an exercise with other cadets at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center on Thursday, Fox5 Atlanta reported, citing the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Dupree, a married father of three, suffered a medical emergency and was rushed to an area hospital but could not be saved.
His wife, Shanna Dupree, told Fox5 that her husband spent her last breath doing what she loved and if he were still alive, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Last month he told me, ‘If I go out, I want to go out and do what I love,'” she said. “He was in that soldier training, doing what he loved, achieving his goals. I’m proud of him.”
Dupree hoped to complete soldier training and eventually work in the aviation unit, according to his family.
He began his law enforcement career with the Cave Spring Police Department and then joined the Euharlee Police Department for six years, according to Fox5.
Before working as an officer, Dupree played semi-pro football after excelling on his high school team. He continued to play after assuming the responsibilities of the insignia.
“He said the app reminds me of a football team, that’s what he said,” said Shanna Dupree. “He felt that when we are a team, we have to go out and help and save the community.”
Her father loved her family deeply and was always there for her daughter and her two sons, she added.
He was an honorable, admirable, inspiring, motivating, very caring man. He made you feel safe and secure,” said Shanna Dupree.
Her daughter said she knows her father would want everyone to stay strong and use her faith as a guide through the dark time.
“It’s not a loss, it’s a win because God has him right now,” Taliah Hayes told Fox5.
