Who was Shae Gordon?

Shae Gordon, 17, from Enfield, was killed during a large street brawl reportedly involving ‘100 men’, some armed with machetes.

Police officers were called to the scene at Lichfield Road, E3, shortly after midnight on September 4 and found two teenage boys with stab wounds.

Shae was taken to hospital but pronounced dead shortly before 2 am. The second teen remains in critical condition following the stabbing.

Arrested

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of violent disorder, who remains in custody.

The incident is one of the latest in a deadly summer for the capital and occurred on the same day as the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Maximillian Kusi-Owusu on Kensington High Street.

It also comes just days after 21-year-old rapper Takayo Nembhard was stabbed to death at the Notting Hill Carnival.

The capital has so far seen 70 murders in 2022, 49 of them with a knife as a weapon.

Medics from the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended the scene and both men were rushed to an East London hospital.

The Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation following the incident, with coroners photographed at the scene.

Family

Shae’s family is being supported by specialist officers following the tragic loss of him.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers of the Met’s Specialized Crime Command said: “An arrest has been made and our investigation continues apace.”

“Shae’s family have our assurances that we will do everything we can to bring them justice and support them after the terrible loss of him.

There were six suspected murders in just four days in August, including 87-year-old Thomas O’Halloran, who was stabbed to death in his mobility scooter in Greenford.

Pressure has mounted on Sadiq Khan following a spike in knife crime since COVID restrictions were lifted.

The Mayor of London pledged his commitment to tackling violent crime with the Metropolitan Police Violent Crime Task Force.

In a tweet, he said: “Violent crime tears families and communities apart.”

“It has no place in London and I am determined to fight both violence and the complex causes of violence.”
