Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Sanaa’s body was found in a wooded area off Rish Road in Leesville, Lexington County, and they suspected she was murdered.
Lott said that Sanaa voluntarily left her home in northeastern Colombia on April 5 with a friend and two teenagers, but that she was subsequently abducted. Jaylon Shyir Wilson, 17, was arrested and charged with kidnapping. He is currently in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Another man, 17-year-old Traveon Jamaar Nelson, is wanted for kidnapping.
If you have information on Nelson’s whereabouts, call 911 or the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher was emotional when she contacted the public and said the crime scene was difficult.
An autopsy will be performed on Friday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Fisher says that she has a provisional cause of death, but she will not reveal it until the autopsy results are known.
Lott said they did not know when Sanaa was killed, but believed that she was shortly after her abduction on April 5.
When asked if the murder was gang related, Lott replied that it was gang activity.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will investigate.
