Saarah Ahmed suffered from Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome (EDS)
Student Saarah Ahmed suffered from Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome (EDS), an inherited connective tissue disorder that affects the skin, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, internal organs and bones.
She died suddenly Tuesday, after using her platform to speak about her illness.
Her proud mother Shefaly Begum now wants to continue Saarah’s mission of educating people about ESD.
Saarah, from Carlisle, Cumbria, was a student at Trinity School and was studying first-rate sociology and psychology.
Shefaly said: “Saarah was determined to raise awareness of hidden disabilities like EDS.
That’s what motivated her when she became a finalist for Miss Universe Great Britain.
She “She was a wonderful person, loving and wise for her age. She had so much wisdom. She wanted to go to college to study neurology. She wanted to help other people.
“She was our only daughter and our princess.”
She underwent major surgery as a teenager to correct a curvature in her spine.
And last year, she traveled to Leeds to meet with the Miss Universe judges, but she withdrew due to blockage and health problems.
In her entry video, she said: “If she were Miss Universe Great Britain, I would raise awareness about hidden disabilities, using myself as an example.
“It would show the daily struggles we face. In particular, I would like to raise awareness of Danlos’Ehler syndrome. ”
“There are only 15 people with my disease in the UK. My condition affects all parts of my body.
“Some of the problems I face are that my bones break every day; extreme pain; Heart problems; and the curvature of the spine and I have many surgeries to correct that.
“Just getting out of bed is a big struggle for me. Although it will be a very difficult journey, I want to show everyone that I can do it too.
Paula Abbandonato, Director of Miss Universe Great Britain, paid a moving tribute to Saarah by stating: “I have been organizing the Miss Universe Great Britain pageant since 2008 and it is not often that I meet a candidate who is impressive. as durable as Saarah.
“The pandemic ended Saarah’s competition last year, but we had every hope that she would return in 2021. Our hearts are broken.
“This world has lost a beautiful woman and a wonderful soul. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, we know that she loved her and cared for her so much.
