Who was Ryan Sakoda ?

The wrestler, who appeared on SmackDown alongside Akio and Tajira from 2003 to 2004 and had recently been working at Disney’s Hotel Grand California before his death, died earlier this month on September 2.

An obituary on the Fukui Mortuary website reads: “Ryan Keiji Sakoda, 48, passed away on September 2, 2021.

“Beloved son of Ronney and Colleen Sakoda; brother of Kelley (Cliff) Ikeda and Brett (Shelly) Sakoda; Kaylee, Brendan, Cammy and Nicholas’s uncle.

“He was the nephew of Jimmy and Akemi Sakoda, Gary and Irene Sumida, and Ray and Carolyn Funatsu; and he had many cousins. ”

Early in his career, Sakoda worked for UPW, NWA Zero One, and XWF, before appearing for WWE as an enhancement talent in 2003.

Later that year, he signed and debuted alongside Akio (Jimmy Yang) as a backup for Tajiri, which saw him work with the likes of Paul London and Brian Kendrick, The Dudley Boyz, Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hoty, The FBI, and The The Crew. largest label in the world.

He was released in August 2004 and returned to UPW before joining MTV’s Wrestling Society X program.

His fans and fellow wrestlers have paid tribute to the late artist, with Paul London recalling “hysterical” impressions of him.

Along with a heartbroken emoji, he tweeted: “Heart is hurt by the sudden passing of Ryan Sakoda.

From our time on OVW to Smackdown, he was always able to make me laugh like no other. His hysterical impressions and his infectious smile.

“I met Ryan in 2001 at UPW and he was always a friend. Grateful for the moments. BREAK’
