Ross Hamilton, of Wood Lane, Isleworth, west London, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court today accused of killing Reece Newcombe in the early hours of Saturday morning. He is also charged with common assault.

Newcombe, 31, who trained celebrities including former footballer Ian Wright for a charity boxing match in 2014, has died after being stabbed with a piece of glass on Richmond Bridge, south-west London.

Hamilton, who appeared on the bench, spoke very quietly only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

The bald and bearded defendant, from Isleworth, west London, wore a thick blue hoodie and appeared to show little emotion during the hearing, which lasted just over a minute.

He pleaded no guilty to one count of murder and one count of common battery.

Anam Yaqoob, the prosecutor, and Hamilton’s lawyer, Reza Pashazadeh, did not speak at all during the hearing. No bail application was filed.

District Judge Deborah Wright told Hamilton: ‘I am sending his case to the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) where he will appear on December 2 at 9:30 a.m.

‘In the interim period, you will be taken into custody.’

The Metropolitan Police said a second 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail until early January.

On Monday, Newcombe’s distraught relatives gathered at his home in Feltham, west London.

A tearful relative told MailOnline: ‘You couldn’t find a nicer person. Reece was one in a million and his entire family is heartbroken by what happened.

“Ian Wright is in Doha with the World Cup, but he has been informed and he is just as devastated as they are.

‘He is a new father, only five months ago his daughter Misse was born, and his mother is in pieces.

“It seems that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. We just hope they catch those responsible quickly.

The GoFundMe page has been launched by Reece’s best friend, Jamie Dobson, and this morning the total stood at just under £60,000.

The family also organized a memorial walk for Reece that will take place Saturday in Richmond Park.

A Gofundme appeal for her five-month-old daughter has raised more than £100,000.
