A mother who killed her three-year-old son and dumped her body in a suitcase got out of jail in less than seven years.

Rosdeep Adekoya, 41, was jailed for 11 years for beating her son Mikaeel Kular to death and dumping her body in a wooded area behind her sister’s home in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland . in 2013.

Her death occurred just six months after returning to Adekoya’s care after more than a year with healthcare workers.

In 2014, Lei Adekoya admitted to committing a guilty murder and a second count of attempting to thwart the ends of justice.

However, she is believed to have been released from Cornton Vale Prison in Stirling on Friday.

The Edinburgh High Court learned that Adekoya had dialed 999 to report her son missing, resulting in a massive two-day search operation involving emergency services and hundreds of local volunteers.

But it was later discovered that Adekoya had “lost her temper” and struck her son when she fell ill several times after visiting Nando at Edinburgh Fountain Park, she heard in court.

When Mikaeel fell ill for the third time, she grabbed him by the arms in the shower and hit him hard on the back.

Over the next few days, Mikaeel’s condition worsened and he became “listless”, but his mother did not take him to the doctor due to bruising.

Later, her body was found with more than 40 different wounds.

A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said: “We do not comment on individual prisoners.”

The High Court had previously heard that Adekoya had a history of depression and had attempted suicide in 2001.

Judge Lord Glennie, who delivered the verdict, said he accepted that Adekoya’s repentance was “real and from the heart.”

But he said that what she was doing was “cruel and unforgivable.”

In 2015, in the wake of the tragedy, the Fife and Edinburgh Child Protection Committees commissioned a major independent review of the case to see if the care teams could have predicted the murder.

A summary of the review concluded that Adekoya’s behavior towards her son was “unprecedented and atypical” and that the murder “could not have been predicted”, despite various concerns raised and the passage of time in caring for the child. . boy.

Between February 2012 and July 2012, Fife Social Work and the NHS Fife Health Visiting Services conducted a series of joint home visits after two concerns were raised.

Mikaeel was treated in July 2012 after Adekoya left him and other children unsupervised.

He stayed with the assistants until August 2013 while social workers waited for an audience with the children before returning the child to his mother.

The report revealed that the terms of contact had not increased pending the hearing.

The review team felt that this should have been done and used as an opportunity to test and monitor her mother’s ability to handle her parenting responsibilities.

After Mikaeel returned to his mother’s home, the family was seen five times by social workers in Fife and twice by doctors in Edinburgh.

The teams did not find any factors suggesting a risk that justifies the intervention.

The examination revealed that “the circumstances leading to Mikaeel’s death could not have been foreseen.”
