Who was Richard Grenfell Thomas?
Richard Grenfell Thomas was an Australian biochemist and mineralogist. He was a Senior Research Scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, finishing his career as head of the Mineral Chemistry Division.
A man has been charged with murder following the death of a man in a trailer park.
Police were called to a caravan fire at The Beeches Residential Caravan Park, Grange Wood, Knollbury Monmouthshire around 02:30 GMT on December 20.
Richard Grenfell Thomas, 52, was taken to the hospital where he later died.
A 42-year-old man from Monmouthshire has been charged with murder and will appear in Newport Magistrates Court on Friday.
Richard Thomas was taken to the hospital for treatment, however, sadly he died from his injuries.
In paying tribute to Mr. Thomas, his family said that he was “one of a kind” and that he will be deeply missed.
“Richard made and took advantage of his own opportunities in life, living them to the fullest; there was never a dull moment for him. He was a strong, well-known and lively person, with an eclectic circle of friends and interests. ”
Mr. Thomas’s family said: “Our beloved Richard Grenfell Thomas, known by his nickname Harpy, was one of a kind.
“His family and many of his friends will miss him deeply. Mom and Dad, brothers, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles and cousins are deeply shocked by his sudden passing.”
Gwent police officers were called to The Beeches trailer park on Monday.
“Richard made and took advantage of his own opportunities in life, living them to the fullest. There was never a dull moment with him, he was a strong, well-known and alive person, with an eclectic circle of friends and interests.” they added.
“Rest in peace Richard, we know that even in death you will remain your own free spirit.”
Detective Superintendent Nicky Brain said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
She added: “Our thoughts and condolences remain with Mr. Thomas’s family at this difficult time.”
