Delaware State Police arrested Reed Messer, 42, of Greenville, South Carolina, on multiple counts of rape and s*xual abuse of a child by a trusted person.

The State Police Criminal Investigations Unit received a report from the Delaware Division of Family Services on December 23, 2022, alleging that Messer, a former teacher at Stanton High School in Wilmington, had an almost s*xual relationship with a student. nine years before.

Investigators learned that the alleged relationship began in October 2014 and lasted about two months, police said.

Reed Messer Arrested and Charged

Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Messer on April 26, which resulted in South Carolina police locating the suspect at her Greenville home and taking her into custody.

Police said Messer was being held at the South Carolina Department of Corrections until Monday, when she was extradited to Delaware.

Messer has been charged with two counts of first-degree s*xual abuse of a child by a trusted person, and 10 counts of third- and fourth-degree rape, all of which are felonies.

Investigators believe the alleged relationship between Messer and the student began in October 2014 and lasted about two months, according to police.

She was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and held at the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $310,000 bond.

Police added that Messer has not been an employee of the Red Clay Consolidated School District since November 2014.

School district officials did not immediately respond to inquiries about the allegations.
