Rayshard Brooks Wiki – Rayshard Brooks Bio
Rayshard Brooks is an Atlanta man who was killed after he was reportedly shot by an Atlanta police officer late Friday night June 12, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The incident occurred at 10:33 p.m. Local time when 2 officers responded to Wendy’s restaurant on University Avenue after receiving a complaint that Brooks was asleep in a car parked at the entrance, authorities said. After failing a sobriety test in the field, officers said they tried to take him into custody. It was at that time that, according to GBI, Brooks resisted and a fight on the ground ensued for almost 30 seconds.
When Rayshard stood up, the police say he had taken an electric pistol from one of the officers, the other policeman opened fire with his electric pistol, and Rayshard began to flee. Both policemen began to chase him from behind and within seconds 3 shots were fired at Rayhsard.
The killing of #RayshardBrooks in Atlanta last night demands we severely restrict the use of deadly force. Yes, investigations must be called for – but so too should accountability.

Witness reports, according to GBI, said that was when Brooks grabbed the electric pistol and was shot by police. Brooks was taken to a local hospital where he died after emergency surgery.
Protest in Atlanta about Rayshard Brooks
Atlanta, along with cities across the United States and the world, has been the site of mass protests following the death of George Floyd while in police custody on March 28. Floyd was killed after an officer pressed his knee to his neck for nearly nine minutes. During the ghastly video, Floyd is heard saying, “I can’t breathe.”

That video and Floyd’s death sparked widespread protests again against racism and police brutality across the United States. Large protests, including protesters seizing a compound in Seattle, continue this weekend as many calls for significant policy reforms in their “Defund the Police” movement.

The two officers at the scene were answering a call that Brooks had allegedly fallen asleep at the fast-food restaurant, blocking other cars. After administering a sobriety test, the police proceeded to arrest the motorist after he failed. As in the case of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arber, video footage of the incident captured by a passerby in a car has since been broadcast on social media.

As seen in the video of the arrest, a skirmish ensued between Brooks and the officers for nearly half a minute. Brooks managed to break free of the officers and attempted to flee.
An officer fired a Taser pistol at him. As Brooks continued to flee, he was shot three times in the back. Brooks was taken to the hospital, but died during surgery. The video was captured by a citizen in a car in Wendy’s parking lot.
