Quanne Diec Biography
A 12-year-old girl who disappeared while walking to school more than 20 years ago was the victim of homocide, according to an investigation.
Quanne Diec was last seen walking from her home in Granville, west Sydney, to catch a train to Strathfield Girls High School on July 27, 1998.
Later that night, her parents reported her missing and her body has not been found since.
An investigation was launched to investigate the circumstances surrounding Quanne’s death and disappearance.

Investigation
The investigation focused on the suspect cleared in her death Vinzent Tarantino, who was found not guilty of murder by a New South Wales Supreme Court jury in 2019.
“However, the available evidence and the absence of any post-mortem examination do not allow any finding to be made as to the precise cause of Quanne’s death,” Mr. Lee wrote in his research findings.
He recommended that the case be referred to the state’s unsolved homicide squad for further investigation as per protocol.
The investigation focused on the suspect cleared of his death, Vinzent Tarantino, who was found not guilty of murder by a New South Wales Supreme Court jury in 2019.
Quanne’s devastated family struggled to understand that decision, and Lee said his anguish was unbearable.
Tarantino had made a series of ‘confessions’ to kidnapping and then dumping the schoolgirl’s body in bushes, including to police in 2016 when he entered a police station.
No new evidence emerged in the investigation of him.
On the day the ‘well loved and complete’ boy disappeared, a neighbor said she saw a foreign-looking young woman talking to a man in a white van.
Soon after, the blue-and-white-striped vehicle pulled away from her with her inside of it.
Other alleged sightings and persons of interest were withdrawn to leave Mr. Tarantino as the remaining ‘significant’ person of interest.
His then-girlfriend, Laila Faily, was reporting domestic violence incidents in October 1998 when she revealed that her boyfriend admitted to strangling Quanne in her bed before knocking over the mattress.
