Who is Qiong Yan ?
Qiong Yan, 30, was reported missing in April by her mother, who lives abroad, after she was unable to communicate with her daughter.
When police went to question her roommate Yang Zhao at the Newport Hamilton apartment complex on the Parkside Circuit around 4 p.m. Monday, they found her human remains.
He now he must be extradited to Queensland, where he is expected to be charged with her murder.

The body has yet to be formally identified, but Ms. Yan’s distraught mother recognized the hidden jewels with her body when she viewed it online from her hometown overseas.
It had been wrapped in cloth in an “advanced state of decomposition.”
Detective Inspector Tim Trezise said that he had been there for weeks, or possibly months, and that only his foot was visible under a sheet.
“The body is completely wrapped in a cloth, there is a visible foot according to my understanding,” he said.
Meanwhile, the police have released a photo of Ms. Yan in hopes that the public can help reconstruct the final phase of her life.
Queensland seeks the extradition of 26-year-old Zhao, who lives in Sydney but is reportedly still renting the unit where the body was found.
Her case was brought up in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday as officials wait for Queensland detectives to arrive from the interstate.
The matter is expected to return to the same court on Wednesday.
When she returns to Queensland, she will have to be quarantined for two weeks due to the Covid outbreak in New South Wales.
An arrest warrant was issued for Zhao on Monday.
Officers have said that she was previously seen at Hamilton’s apartment, but that there was no romantic relationship between her and the man they intend to charge with her murder.
