Who was Peyton Ham?
Peyton Ham was a Maryland youth who was shot and killed by a state trooper on Tuesday, April 13, when authorities say the teen was armed with an airsoft pistol and a knife. Ham was pointing the replica of the gun at the police officer he responded to, who he believed to be a real firearm during the 1:30 pm meeting in Leonardtown.
A Maryland state trooper shot and killed a 16-year-old boy, claiming he had a knife and a compressed air pistol, which fires non-lethal pellets.

Law enforcement authorities received two 911 phone calls two minutes apart, informing someone who was acting suspicious and appeared to have a weapon, Maryland State Police Superintendent Jerry Jones said. A police officer confronted a male subject armed with a knife and an airsoft pistol that was a close-up replica of a pistol.
The police officer, whose identity has not yet been released, shot Ham once before the teen got up with a knife, another witness told police.
The incident took place in a driveway in the 23000 block of Hollywood Road, Jones added.

The police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. Passersby were told to expect road closures and a heavy police presence.
