Who is Perez Reed ?

An alleged serial killer linked to six recent homicides in Missouri and Kansas was arrested by authorities on a federal weapons charge on Friday, according to a report.

Pérez Reed has yet to be charged in any of the murders, but at least one prosecutor is already preparing to file a murder charge after he was arrested with the weapon allegedly used in all the crimes, the authorities said. sources to KSDK-TV.

The killings took place between September and the end of October in St. Louis, the surrounding area and Kansas City, Kansas, according to the report.

Victims

Most of the victims were women, some of whom were sex workers, according to the report. The victims were between 16 and 49 years old.

The youngest victim, Marnay Haynes, was found shot to death Sept. 13 in St. Louis County, according to the report.

The oldest known victim is a 49-year-old woman who was shot in the street and later died in a hospital on September 16. Three days later, a 24-year-old man was found dead in a vacant lot. Ten days later, on September 26, police were alerted to an area in Ferguson, Missouri, after police software ShotSpotter, which tracks gunfire in high-violence areas, pinged authorities. There, a 40-year-old man was found dead on the street.

Death

In the same city, Casey Ross, 24, was found shot to death on September 16.

In the vicinity of Ferguson, Lester Robinson, 40, was shot to death and found on September 26.

The two Kansas City murders occurred in the same high-rise apartment building. Damon Irvin, 35, was discovered dead with gunshot wounds on November 1.

The body of 25-year-old Rau’Daja Fairrow was found the next day.

Arrested and Charged

The FBI had been following him and he was arrested after exiting a bus in Independence, Missouri, according to the report.

So far, Reed has been charged with two counts of first degree murder, one count of first degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action, according to St. Louis County Attorney Wesley Bell’s office, as reported in local media. Reed has also been charged with one federal count of transporting a firearm across a state line with the intent to commit a felony.

On November 1, police found the bodies of a 35-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in the high-rise apartment that led them to solve the case. Police found another deceased person in the compound, but say they later attributed that death to natural causes. On Sunday night, residents of the apartment complex launched balloons to honor the dead just as charges were brought against Reed.

He is being held in a federal detention center on a charge of transporting firearms across state lines with the intent to commit a felony.

Investigation

Investigators said the same .40-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol was used in all of the murders.

In addition to allegedly possessing that firearm, Reed also wore shoes that connected him to the crime scene, sources told the news outlet.

Shooting

Most of the alleged non-fatal shooting victims were women who were known sex workers. At least two of the shooting victims who survived were members of the trans community, police say. At least one non-fatal shooting victim was a man who did not fit into any category and was randomly hit while waiting at a bus stop. Police have not announced a motive, but say they do not believe any of the victims were known or to Reed, who did not have a substantial criminal record but had been arrested for misdemeanors in the past.
