PC Ernesto Ceraldi Biography
Who is PC Ernesto Ceraldi ?
A police shooter is facing years in jail after pleading guilty today to attempting to rape a woman he met in a pub after previously claiming they had consensual s*x.
PC Ernesto Ceraldi, a serving officer for 21 years, also admitted causing actual bodily harm to the victim, who is in his 40s.
The 43-year-old is a specialist firearms officer and dog handler with Greater Manchester Police.
Ceraldi, who once fought a white-collar boxing match in a “battle” between officers from other forces, was told by a judge that he faced a “substantial” prison sentence.
PC Ernesto Ceraldi, a serving officer for 21 years, also pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm to the victim, who is in his 40s.
Ceraldi met the woman in a pub in Edenfield, Lancaster, the night before the April 2 attack.
Judge Simon Medland, QC, sitting in Preston Crown Court, told the defendant: ‘You have pleaded guilty to these very serious charges in the indictment.
“Inevitably, he will be given a substantial and immediate prison sentence.”
Ceraldi, of Darwen, Lancs., has been in custody since his arrest after being denied bail.
Initially, District Judge Jack McGarva granted him bail on the terms that he lived at the force training facility, observed a nightly curfew, and surrendered his passport.
However, prosecutor Peter Beardsley appealed the decision, arguing that Ceraldi should remain in custody for the officer’s own protection.
Mr Beardsley said: “Given the recent and high-profile matters involving police officers, the Crown says the defendant would be at significant risk of harm if he were released on bail.”
Phillip Barlow, in defense, said that pretrial detention of a police officer was not the best way to keep him safe.
He added: “My client has said all along that everything that happened was with consent.” he added.
In 2018, Ceraldi lost to an officer from the Lancashire Police, the force currently investigating the alleged rape, in a white-collar boxing match billed as a “Battle of the Forces”.
The GMP website stated that Ceraldi and a colleague are trained to handle live firearms incidents along with police dogs Jax and Storm.
In an earlier statement about the officer’s arrest, GMP said: “We are aware of criminal proceedings against a police officer on duty.”
‘The officer has been suspended. An investigation for misconduct will be initiated after criminal proceedings.’
He will be sentenced in June.
